WHAT IS AERATION AND WHAT DOES IT DO? Aeration is the process of penetrating the soil surface to allow air, water, and nutrients to flow deeper into the soil. This allows more vital elements to the roots of your grass, making your grass roots grow deeper. This creates a stronger and lush lawn.
Aeration is typically performed in the spring and fall to allow the grass to repair itself easily without the stresses of extreme heat of summer or dormancy of winter. Spring aeration usually begins after the 1st of April and stops in Fall on the 15th of October. Aeration after the 15th of October is not recommended because the grass has to have enough time to heal before going dormant for winter. Otherwise you have thousands of holes for bugs, weeds, etc to live in over winter.

Fertilizing
WHAT IS FERTILIZING AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Fertilizing can seem complicated but it is actually pretty simple. Grass is a living organism just like you and me. We need water, maintenance, and food to be our best. Fertilizing is food for the grass. Without it, your grass will struggle. Just like us, your lawn needs different types of fertilizer to be its best. I recommend applying fertilizers around holidays. It's easy to remember and around the time we are outside enjoying our lawn. Our fertilizers are organic based. Safe for the kids and safe for the pets.
FERTILIZER PROGRAMS We can apply a one-time application or for those who are interested in year round. We offer a fertilizer program that has 4 applications per year and follows the time frame outlined below.
Around Easter- It is important to get the season started off right. We give the lawn some nitrogen to get the upward growth started with a little iron to green things up as well as a soil conditioner to wake up those beneficial organisms in your soil. We recommend you apply a "pre emegent" to the lawn. It is applied to stop weeds we don't see yet that are just seeds and have blown into your yard over winter. Think of this as stopping the weeds before they even start. 14-2-5 + Fe-S
Around Memorial Day- We apply some more nitrogen and iron as well as some soil conditioner to help prepare the lawn for the hot season ahead. We recommend you apply a "weeding" product around this time to keep the weeds under control because your neighbors didn't stop their weeds in time and now new weed seeds have blown into your yard and they are beginning to grow. This stops those weeds from growing anymore. The fertilizer will allow your lawn to stay nice and green and continue to grow. 14-2-5 + Fe-S
Around Independence Day- Now it's hot and the summer is in full swing. We like to slow down the upward growth but not sacrifice the green color. We don't apply as much nitrogen when it is hot. But we add a dose of soil conditioner again to help watering be more effective. We recommend you apply a "bug be gone." Bugs love the hot weather and are super active during this time of year. Stop the bugs before they make a home in your yard. To have the best maintenance for your yard make sure to increase sprinkler watering times and mow on a higher setting on your lawn mower during the hotter months. 3-2-1 + Fe-S
After Labor Day- Last but not least the winterizer. We apply this as the season is winding down. It helps your lawn with the stresses of winter. It is slow releasing, allowing your lawn to feed over winter during periods of snow. It also helps with strengthening the roots to help them prepare for dormancy above ground in winter. 15-3-6 + Fe-S
Other Services- We can help revive trouble areas on a case by case basis. Please contact us to set up a time for a free lawn analysis.
All of our fertilizers are organic based and are made local in Platteville, Colorado. The fertilizers are produced locally and are made for Colorado soils. All fertilizing applications are in a granule form. To help prevent burn spots and provide an even application.

Power Raking
WHAT IS POWER RAKING AND WHAT DOES IT DO? Power raking, also known as dethatching, is the process of removing built up debris along the surface of your soil. Over time, broken down organic matter builds up on the surface of your lawn and makes it more difficult for air, water, and nutrients to absorb into the soil. Our machine uses tines to pull up and break apart that layer of thatch. This allows it to be vacuumed up and removed from your lawn.
We offer two types of power raking. One option is to just have the lawn machine raked but leave the thatch for you to pick up. This option starts at $35 but doesn't include clean up. The other option is to have the lawn machine raked and the thatch is vacuumed up with a lawn vacuum and then put into 55 gallon trash bags. This option starts at $60 plus bag fee if you want the trash bags removed from your property. Price does not include trash disposal. A $5 per 55 gallon bag fee will be charged if we dispose of it.
*$35 price does not include pick up of thatch. Power rake with thatch removal starts at $60 plus disposal if requested.
**Power Raking season ends when the grass is green as it will pull out more green grass than thatch. Usually around the 1st of May. Then can be done in the fall starting around Labor day**

Seeding
WHAT IS SEEDING AND WHAT DOES IT DO? Seeding is the process of adding in extra seed to you lawn to prevent from getting thin spots. Overseeding applies seed with a broadcast spreader much like fertilizer. Its typically done in conjunction with aeration. Slit seeding is a machine that creates little grooves in the lawn and the hopper drops seeds directly into the grooves resulting in a much higher germination rate (pictured below). Over time your lawn will naturally grow thinner. Seeding helps you stay ahead of the thin spots. Preventing them before they even start. Allowing you to consistently have a much thicker lawn.
**Seeding can be very specific to you lawn and application needed please contact us before your scheduled appointment to make sure we have the right seed and that your lawn is ready for seeding. Seeding cannot be applied when any "weed" type fertilizers are applied as they will keep the seed from germinating and therefore the seed will not grow. We also need to make sure that the thinning problem (bugs, fungus, etc) is treated so as to not waste any seed**
